Who is EJ Wilcox Art?
Updated: Jan 22, 2021
Guilty as charged, it is me!
I am a self-taught artist living in Wales. I first started painting in March 2020 when my daughter asked me to draw a rainbow to thank the NHS for all their hard work during the Covid pandemic.
Here is what we drew, a rainbow tree with a little girl having fun on a swing.
I loved the way this drawing made me feel and went onto draw many more pieces. My love for painting and drawing was born from this little creation.
For me, it’s the process I enjoy the most. I find painting so good for my mental well-being and it is now my go-to place when things in life get a little hard.
Making art also helps me stay strong and cope with my mum’s mental loss illness, vascular dementia. Vascular dementia is caused by reduced blood flow to the brain and sadly at the moment, there is no cure.
Watching my mum, who was also an artist (an exceptional one) slowly lose her memory is heart-breaking. The ripple effects of dementia can be truly devastating at times.
Art has the Power to Heal
According to Health Harvard, Art has the power to heal, relieve stress, anxiety and promote relaxation in people. Art is like good medicine to me, it makes me happy and I love nothing more than creating colourful art that makes people smile.
Not only has art helped me, but it helps my mum too, as she loves to see and talk about my creations. Somehow, my art has helped reignite memories in her, back when she used to paint and sketch. She was such an astounding artist and created so many beautiful pieces.
I would encourage everyone to explore their creative side, you never know what you will be good at or even love until you try.
